Tracking errors, head-switching noise and scanline wobble captured from real tape, delivered as ProRes 4444 with a genuine alpha channel. The artifacts sit over your footage in Normal blend mode with nothing else to set up.

The VHS look is built from specific, recognisable failures: the head-switching band along the bottom of the frame, horizontal tracking tears, chroma bleeding sideways off saturated edges. Filters that fake it with a blur and a scanline pattern rarely convince, because they reproduce the aesthetic without the artifacts.

This overlay comes from real tape, so the noise behaves the way tape noise behaves: irregular, uneven, occasionally clean for a beat before it tears again. That irregularity is what sells the effect.

The ProRes 4444 master carries a real 12-bit alpha channel, so you keep Normal blend mode and full control over your grade underneath. Lower the opacity for a subtle degradation, or leave it at full strength for a heavily worn tape.

Ten seconds at 1920x1080 and 30fps, readable when scaled to a 4K timeline, and handled natively by Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.
